XMECO Heavy

OUR HISTORY

The Xmeco Group, originally established in 1951 in Port Elizabeth by John Exley Senior, comprised Xmeco Heavy Engineering, Xmeco Foundry (specialising in casting and moulding ferrous materials) and Xmeco (Pty) Ltd (specialising in non-ferrous materials).

Many years ago, Xmeco Heavy Engineering became an independent entity, while more recently, Xmeco Foundry was sold to the multinational Weir Group and is now known as Weir Heavy Bay Foundry.

Despite these changes, Xmeco Heavy Engineering has continued to work closely with Weir Heavy Bay Foundry, as well as with Xmeco (Pty) Ltd.

Xmeco Heavy Engineering has been operational for approximately 30 years. Although the company was originally established to machine locomotive truck frames for the General Motors Locomotive Plant, as well as large-press tools for the automotive industry in Port Elizabeth, we eventually expanded our facilities to service the pump and mining industries as well.

We pride ourselves on being able to deliver a complete package – designing, fabricating, casting and machining. Situated in Markman Township, in close proximity to Weir Heavy Bay Foundry, we are able to supply fully machined ferrous castings up to 18 tons.
